I prepared a poster for SAA2006 titled: Communicating Context in Online Collections

KEY POINTS

• Provide easy access to Finding Aid, Biographical Data and Historical Background
• Show record’s position within collection or series
• Give easy navigation to other related records
• Show series, collection, and description data when possible in search results
• Give many access points to records – not only browse within collections, but also by location, media, topic and date
• Include context of search in search results screen
• Plan carefully before digitization to collect data regarding relationships among records
