Glossary

Born Digital any record that was originally created in a digital format. It is not a digitization of an analog record. Examples of born digital records are photographs taken with a digital camera, documents written in a word processor and business records created within a computer system.

EAD Encoded Archival Description. A standard for encoding archival finding aids. See the excellent SAA EAD Roundtable definition.

GIS Geographic Information System. Often used to refer to any computer system or database that has geographic elements to it.
